PENS ARE MY FRIENDS by Jon Burgerman | Systems Design Limited

Jon Burgerman is a British artist whom personal, collaborative and commercial work collected in this book.  Pens are my friends has five chapters [inky thumbs, doodles for dandies, warm wine & anxiety, scribbles in sketchbooks, under the rug] that includes different areas of his work like print illustrations to tees, apparel, exhibitions and more. The book is lots of fun and it has a lot of surprises waiting for you. First of all the cover jacket is actually a poster by Burgerman. And inside there are lots of fold out pages as you can see in the images..

Additionally, at the end of the book there is a little sketchbook which includes a dvd. Inside you can find animations, screensavers, icons and interviews which is super cool and fun.

for the colour maniacs!

COLOUR MANIA by Victionary

This book came out when I was digging into the library of two of my friends nearly a month ago. The book is remarkable indeed. It includes 9 different colors and a rainbow tone. In every ‘chapter’ or might say ‘color’ we learn about a different color and see the works done with it. It is absolutely fabulous to see how a color can help to create that much strong pieces, and in some cases can be the starting point.

Additionally, the cover has ten different color jackets same as the ones inside the book.

THE ART OF LOOKING SIDEWAYS by Alan Fletcher | Phaidon

It is a book about everything that the hand, the eye, the brain and the imagination can come up with. All in 72 chapters, quotations, images, jokes, facts, science and everything about life can be found. It is the art of looking sideways. And as Alan Fletcher says “It’s a cross between a collage and a box of goodies.”

classic graphics, Today’s design

NEW RETRO: CLASSIC GRAPHICS, TODAY’S DESIGN by Thames & Hudson

This book is a great source for design students to look at contemporary designs that are influenced by the early designs. Also learn about the classic twentieth century designs and get inspired by them. It is not just for students to learn obviously for professional designers it is a great source to get inspiration from the past. The reason I choose to put this book here because it is kind of an introduction to retro design and an historical survey of graphic design which is also showing best international design produced in recent years. A book that you need to have in your library.

YOKOLAND by Die Gestalten Verlag, Berlin 2006

”So we ended up with Yokoland. We even made a slogan; Yoko, but not Ono.”
I didn’t know how to start explaining this book, its not just because I love it so much but because it is reaaaaaally good. Well as they say in the beginning the first page is not the BEGINNING of the book. If you wanna run towards it and just check the works than skip 15 pages. But believe me you will miss a lot because the first 15 pages is a good way to learn about them. And its done in a perfect way. So from the start I knew that I was looking at something different, and having a lot of FUN doing it.
Well, Yokoland created by two norwegians and it is a design studio AND this book shows some of their works AND it is awesome (fun, creative, different) AND find it, look at it, get inspired by it.

the worst hotel in the world!

THE WORST HOTEL IN THE WORLD: THE HANS BRINKER BUDGET HOTEL AMSTERDAM
by KesselsKramer
Well after a long time of not publishing anything, I wanted to come back with the book The worst hotel in the world by KesselsKramer. It is about The Hans Brinker Budget Hotel in Amsterdam, which became popular after KesselsKramer took over the campaigns. The campaigns are basically about how a hotel can not give you any comfort and which is basically disgusting. Though, because of the clever ads may be(!) the worst hotel in the world became the most popular one that people actually go. In the book you can read about the hotel, see all the print ads that done for the hotel and also some comments that left in the internet site by people who are actually stayed.
In other words as they said in their web site  “As hard as the Brinker pillows and as heavy as a Brinker breakfast, THE WORST HOTEL IN THE WORLD will tell you anything you wanted to know, and many things you didn’t, about the hotel described as, similar to hell, but without proper heating.”| http://www.hans-brinker.com/ |

ONE TO ONE: THE VISUAL CULTURE OF INTERNATIONAL TICKETS | TANJA BACKE by Actar-d

Everyday when we go out from our houses to socialize we come face to face with tickets. Tickets that we use to go to a cinema with friends, that we take to park our car in a parking-lot, to go to a museum, to take the bus, train, plane, underground,etc.. Even though we throw those tickets away Tanja Backe didn’t. Looking at a book that has 1500 tickets from all around world amazed me. A little thing that most of us don’t care about can become a book which is wisely arranged according to color, and it allows the viewer to see different kinds of typefaces, formats, backgrounds, languages…

text and art, art and text…

ART AND TEXT by Black Dog Publishing
Text became a part of art starting from the 60s. Right now it is a great way of communicating with the viewer. This book is showing examples of how text used as a piece of art. There are over 100 artists included who continue to use text and expand its possibilities. Overall it is a nice book (clean, well structured) for the ones interested in using text in their works.

Also I want to share a video with you.. It is a perfect example for how text can be included in motion graphics. Done by two designers Mig Reyes and Matthew Born.
